I League 2017-18: Find what is the growing concern for Sony Norde ahead of derby?

Kolkata: In a bid to get more open space Mohun Bagan’s star winger Sony Norde wants coach Sanjoy Sen to re-think his strategies. The talismanic Haitian has realised opponents have gauged his style of play and is finding ways to stop him. The Mohun Bagan captain playing in his fourth season in India feel the need for coach Sanjoy Sen to re-think the team’s strategy.

“The other teams now have started gathering my style of play. They are finding ways to stop me, and are successful to some extent. I have asked the coach to give it a thought to plan a strategy for me so that I get more open space to operate,” said Norde to the reporters here after the team’s gym session in the morning.

In spite of the opponents finding a way to bottle him down, Norde still has enough brilliance to find his way out in a game like he did in the game against Minerva FC in the opening I League encounter. The Mariners took the lead from a superb solo effort from Norde.

“The coach has to find out a solution. If that means a change in my position I leave it on him,” said Norde.

With just four more days remaining for the derby Norde has urged the seniors in the team to take added responsibilities to motivate the youngsters.

According to Norde, “We have a new team this season with many youngsters playing their first season for Mohun Bagan. The seniors like me need to take more responsibility on the field and motivate them ahead of the derby”

The Mariners conceded a goal in the dying minutes of the Minerva match to surrender crucial away points in the first match. Last season too, in spite of a good result in home matches, losing points in away matches turned out to be crucial in the context of the championship.

Talking about the result against Minerva, Sony said, “In a way it is good to get a few blows at the beginning of the long season rather than hitting the roadblocks in the middle. We can learn from our mistakes and bounce back quickly.”
