Internet Desk: Indian captain Virat Kohli is likely to be rested for the 3 match ODI & T20I series against Sri Lanka at home. In a view to give himself enough rest ahead of the tough tour to South Africa, Kohli has decided to opt out of the remainder of the series against Lanka. It will be interesting if the Indian captain will be rested even for the third and final test match against Lanka which gets underway at Feroz Shah Kotla from December 02.

The selectors will pick four squads in Nagpur on Monday. Apart from picking the squads for the third test, ODI & T20I , they will also pick the team for the test series in South Africa.

For the tour to South Africa, the focus will be on the bowling department as the call to go ahead with five specialist seamers or three spinners will be taken on Monday. Fast bowlers Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma should be an automatic choice. For the fifth fast bowler it will be a stiff competition between Shardul Thakur and Jasprit Bumrah. Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are likely to find a place in the South Africa bound team. If the selectors feel the need of an extra spinner then either Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzuvendra Chahal will be selected.

As far as batting order is concerned there will be no surprises. Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul will form the opener’s slot. Middle order looks almost settled with captain Virat Kohli, Chetshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma picking themselves automatically. It will be interesting whether the selectors opt out for two all-rounders. In that case Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar will join Hardik Pandya. Wriddhiman Saha and Parthiv Patel will be the two wicket-keepers.

The Test series, first of the long away season for India, will start from January 2 to January 28 next year. Three Test matches between the Proteas and the Indian team will be played at Newlands, Cape Town (January 5 to 9), Centurion (January 13-17) and The Wanderers, Johannesburg (January 24-28).

Last time India toured South Africa in 2013/14 they were beaten 1-0 in the two-match Test series.
