The incident took place at Baranagar station, Soumya Mukherjee(victim) was a student of Institute of Management and Engineering at Kolkata. From the witnesses it was found that the accident took place when he tried to get down from the running train. Unable to maintain his balance he tumbled over a potato sack and was eventually hit by the moving train.
He suffered severe injuries which ultimately proved fatal. He was kept at Sagar Dutta Hospital but was later shifted to RG Kar due to heavy bleeding. He breathed his last on Monday 11:15 am.
