Romeo Fernandes will add more options to us: Morgan

Wedson to play his first match on Thursday in Siliguri

???????????????????????????????

Kolkata: The addition of FC Goa midfielder Romeo Fernandes will give more options to him; feel East Bengal coach Trevor James Morgan. The 24 year old midfielder from Goa has been roped in by the Kolkata giants. Talking about new signing Romeo Fernandes, after the practice session today the gaffer feel it’s a good addition to the squad.

“Yes, we have got options now. If the system that we are playing is not working then we have options now with Jackichand and Romeo which is a good thing.”

The team will be leaving for Siliguri tomorrow to take part in a practice match against Bagha Jatin club. The match is organized by Bhaichung Bhutia. Wedson Ansleme will play his first match for the club.

East Bengal will start their I League campaign against Aizawl FC at Barasat Stadium on January 07. Earlier the Red and Golds were supposed to start their campaign with an away match against the North East side.

“I think we were supposed to play the first three games away from home according to the fixture earlier sent. But now we will be playing two home and two away matches at the start which is fair enough,” said Morgan.

East Bengal will be dogged by a list of injuries to his key players. The likes of Bikash Jairu, Cavin Lobo and Arnab Mondal will not be available for the side in the first three or four matches. Mehtab Hossain who returned from Kochi last night too seems to carry a hamstring injury. The midfielder came to the club to meet Morgan today. With so many injuries to the side and not much time to recover Morgan seemed concerned

“I don’t think Cavin will be ready at the start of the season. He is still a couple of weeks away from joining the full time training. It is the same with Bikash. Arnab also is out for at least three of four weeks. But we have a big enough squad. It’s one of those things we do have any hand. But the squad is big enough to play without them before they come back.”

Suher VP from Kerala joined the East Bengal practice today along with Nitesh Chikara. Suher, who played an outstanding game against East Bengal in Kolkata League few months back, caught the attention of Morgan. The gaffer said, “I was very impressed when I saw him play against us. Just asked him to come for the training and see how he goes.”

Both Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC have retained the core group of players for the last couple of seasons, which has reflected in their performance. On being asked whether too many new signings will be a problem or not, Morgan said, “When I was here before, we had a similar core group. Every year you will have 5-6 players come and go. That’s the way it is. It’s true we have made a lot of new signings this season. It might take them time to embed in to play in Kolkata. Hopefully they will quickly adjust with the system here.”
