In a release by West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), the selectors have decided to drop Chandrika from the 14 member squad which was announced on Thursday.
22-year-old Hope made his de but against England last season at home. Hope made his mark by scoring a hundred (118*) against the Indians during a tour game preceding the Test series at Warner Park in St. Kitts. The cricketer from Barbados played the last of his six Tests against Australia in Sydney in January before a string of low scores forced the selectors to leave him out of the side for the start of the India series.
West Indies, who already have a third opener in the squad in the left-handed Leon Johnson, will now have a selection decision to make ahead of the next game. Out of form Chandrika has only managed an aggregate of 53 runs across four innings.
West Indies Squad: Jason Holder (c), Kraigg Brathwaite, Shai Hope, Leon Johnson, Darren Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Jermaine Blackwood, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich (wk), Shannon Gabriel, Carlos Brathwaite, Devendra Bishoo, Alzarri Joseph, Miguel Cummins
