2018 FIFA WC: Will Colombia get the service of James Rodriguez against England in Round of 16?

[caption id="attachment_68791" align="aligncenter" width="580"] XtraTime Web Desk:  England might have a huge advantage in the Round of 16, as Colombia's attacking spearhead James Rodriguez limped off during the first half of their 1-0 win over Senegal. It was a recurrence of the calf injury that kept him out of Colombia’s opener against Asian giants Japan.[/caption]

Jose Pekerman is very much skeptical of James coming on against England as the former Real Madrid man suffered the same injury in a matter of 10 days.

He said: “I am extremely concerned. It’s a tough situation for my team and a topic that could overshadow everything else.

“It’s not a comfortable situation for us. He trained normally yesterday, he was fully fit, no hint of injury.

“But right now I don’t know where he stands to be honest.

“Hopefully there will be good news after he has been for his medical examination.”

Despite this, Pekerman is confident of his team’s chances against England, who lost 1-0 to Belgium thanks to Adnan Januzaj's goal.

He said: “A different type of match is heading their way - completely full-on, to-the-death matches, extreme situations.

"England has what it takes, but Colombia is also very confident.”

The Argentine added: “We know that any team that reaches the last 16 is good. We are talking the 16 best in the world.

“England is a young team. From what I have seen they have a lot of harmony and are very confident, with some excellent individual players.

“You have to play a great game from the beginning.”
