XtraTime Web Desk: When Shubman Gill came to bat last night against Chennai Super Kings the home side Kolkata Knight Riders were in deep trouble as they were only 40 for 2 while chasing a big total of 178 runs to win. The pressure was all on him in front of over 61,000 people and not only that he was also batting against a team which was led by legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni. But India’s U19 star held his nerve well and blasted 57 runs from just 36 deliveries to take his side home. It was also his maiden IPL fifty as well.

KKR skipper who scored 45 runs from just 18 deliveries was in all praise for the youngster. After the game Karthik also predicted that on day Gill would definitely wear the nation’s jersey as well.

“Credit to the franchisee, they picked a lot of under-19 players. They are really skilled players. That boy is special. I don’t want to hype it up and put extra pressure on him. I can see a lot of years of India Blues in him,” said Karthik.

Shubman Gill became a star in Indian cricket after getting man of the tournament award in the ICC U19 World Cup held in New Zealand. India became unbeaten champion by defeating Australia in the finals. Gill, the right handed batsman scored 341 runs in five matches with an average of 170.50. Now in IPL he has also started to show his class which is a great sign for the future of Indian cricket.
