Sourav Ganguly on Dinesh Karthik: KKR Hai Taiyar

Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Dinesh Karthik made his ODI debut against England at Lord’s in 2004 under Sourav Ganguly's captaincy. India won the match by 23 runs. Karthik failed to impress with his bat but did brilliantly well to get rid of English all rounder Paul Collingwood as Paul's flick went to short leg where Mohammad Kaif fielded the ball and threw to the stumps Karthik did a brilliant diving effort and made Collingwood ran out.

Ganguly went to flash back and shared this sweet memory and said, "He was an excellent talent but lack of consistency pulled him back. After his debut in 2004 he went to England again in 2006 under Rahul Dravid's captaincy to play the test series where he used to open with another veteran player Washim Jaffer but lack of consistency and rise of Mahendra Singh Dhoni ruled him out of the contention."

The come back man of Indian Cricket delighted to see Karthik’s come back in this age as he said, "It's great to see a 32 years old batsman came back strongly in the Indian squad. If he would fail to perform yesterday India could lose the match and the series. He changed his style of play and got the reward of playing courageous cricket."

Former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper also spoke about Karthik’s new role of being KKR captain for this edition of IPL as he said," KKR team management might have seen some potential in him, so they have kept faith on his captaincy. He did well as a skipper for Tamil Nadu in the first class games as well."

On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders team have started its training at Jadavpur campus today. Robin Uthappa, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Sivam Mavi, Subhman Gil, Ishank Jaggi have joined the session. Skipper Dinesh Karthik and coach are expected to come by the end of this month.
