Mahavir Singh Phogat: I started dreaming for this day as soon as I left my Govt. job and started training girls. My aim was to train all the girls in my locality who wanted to be a wrestler. My dream came true when Geeta (Phogat) won the Commonwealth medal as the first Indian wrestler.

We had to tolerate many things in our village as I wanted these girls to be successful in this particular sport. Feeling really proud for my girls as all four of them won medals in Commonwealth Wrestling Championship 2017. Beside that I am proud today as a coach as all the girls who won medals are my students. I have no words to express my feelings.

It was a comeback journey for Geeta as she was not in practice. She got Govt. job and then got married. Her success was very special to me. Though all the other girls from India played exceptionally well. It will definitely boost other Indian wrestlers to perform well in the world stages. Foreign wrestlers are very strong though but wrestling in India made a huge improvement. Though it’s still very hard to be a women wrestler as far as the infrastructures are concern.

I am waiting for my girls to come I will hug them and we will celebrate the success.
