Internet Desk: Zabivaka the wolf was unveiled as the official mascot for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia on Tuesday. Zabivaka got the maximum votes (53%) in an online pole conducted by FIFA.

The name ‘Zabivaka’ in Russian when translated in Russian means “the one who scores”. The mascot has been designed by Russian student Ekaterina Bocharova.

Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko while unveiling the mascot said, “ Zabivaka would be a "massive hit" with fans.” The first competitive event that the mascot will debut in will be the 2017 Confederations Cup.

“I am sure Zabivaka will be a massive hit among fans at the Confederations Cup in 2017 and 2018 World Cup,” Mutko told the media.

FIFA secretary-general Fatma Samoura told the media that the project to select the next mascot had started 18 months ago. He also praised the enthusiasm of the Russians during the selection that highlighted their commitment to the World Cup.

Former Brazillian legend Ronaldo was also in attendance in Moscow where the ceremony was held, and said that he could already see the success of the World Cup in the world's largest country.
