Winning the toss at the Kennington Oval in London, Indian skipper Virat Kohli opted to bowl first and the decision raised quite a few eyebrows as the Proteas openers Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock built up a good partnership.
Ashwin who was introduced into today’s match as a replacement of Umesh Jadav after waiting for the first two games provided the first break through for his country when he dismissed Amla who scored 35 runs. De Kock went on to finish his half century and was dismissed by Jadeja for 53.
The collapse of the South African innings began with the dismissal of their skipper AB De Villiers. There were many run outs which also involved a highly comical run out between David Miller and Faf Du Plesis.
The entire middle order of the Proteas collapsed with all of them scoring runs in single digits with the only exception being JP Duminy who scored 20.
At the end of 44.3 overs Indian restricted South Africa for only 191 runs and thereby setting an easy target for the defending Champions.
For the Indian side, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled really well as scalped 2 wickets along with Bumrah taking 2 wickets. Other bowlers Ashwin, Pandya and Jadeja got a wicket each.
