Watch: 6th Anniversary of India's epic World Cup win, an exceptional night at Wankhede

Internet Desk: On this day, six years ago India won it’s second World Cup. MS Dhoni played a key role in India's win as they beat Sri Lanka in Mumbai to win the World Cup on home soil.

It was India’s first title after 28 long years and the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar finally achieved his dream to lift the World Cup on his sixth attempt.

The memorable moment of the match was Dhoni’s six at the end on Nuan Kulasekara’s delivery. On the second delivery of the 49th over of Indian innings and MS Dhoni hit the ball to long on for a huge six. He watched the ball as it went over the top, once he knew he had done it he twirled his bat and hugged Yuvraj.



The party among the fans in Mumbai had begun but it was a dream come true for MS Dhoni. Under his captaincy India won the inaugural 2007 World T20 in South Africa. After that India became the No.1 Test team in his leadership and finally the World Cup as well.

Dhoni came to bat when India were in a spot of bother after young Virat Kohli fell for 33. Along with opener Gautam Gambhir (97) he held the innings and took India to victory with Yuvraj later. He remained not out on 91 runs from 79 balls, in which he hit 8 fours and 2 huge sixes. Before the final, Dhoni won form was a bit down as he hadn’t played any big knocks in the tournament, but the best finisher of the world came to the party on perfect time.
