According to the IPL player’s contract, Indian players under BCCI central contracts will be compensated fully if he is not able to take part in the cash rich league. It only makes sense for the Indian players to rest rather than injuring them further playing in the tournament.
Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay and KL Rahul have been ruled out due to injuries. Indian captain Virat Kohli will undergo rehabilitation after sustaining an injury to his right shoulder. His recovery will be assessed in the second week of April to determine an exact return to play date for IPL 2017. Ace Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has reported groin pain and has been advised 6-8 weeks of rehabilitation, which he will undergo and hence will not be available for the upcoming IPL season. India’s opening batsman KL Rahul is likely to undergo surgery of his left shoulder and may not be available for his side in IPL 2017 season during which he will have to complete his rehabilitation. Another Indian opener Murali Vijay will require surgery to his right wrist and also undergo rehabilitation for his left shoulder and will not be able to participate for Kings XI Punjab.
There have been earlier instances when an Indian cricketer under central contract was compensated by BCCI. Back in 2011, five Indian players including Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Rohit Sharma, Munaf Patel and Ashish Nehra was compensated for missing the cash rich league in 2011.
It was decided then that if the contracted players got injured while playing for India, he would get compensation for the money he would thus lose for missing matches for his IPL franchise.
