Kolkata: Wriddhiman Saha feels if he can perform 10 percent of what Superman did, that will be a great motivation for him. The India wicket-keeper who had a brand of gloves named after him launched in the city was speaking about him being compared with Superman.

According to Saha, “Feels good when you hear people comparing you with Superman. May be if I had done once, people would not have compared me with the character, but since I have been able to do it a few times, I am being compared . I will try and maintain the good work.”

He further added, “I feel humbled to be compared with Superman. If I can achieve at least 10 percent like Superman I will feel honoured. I will try and maintain the standard.”

The wicket-keeper from Bengal has come a long way, warming the benches in the dressing room when a legend called MS Dhoni kept wickets for India. It was his patience and perseverance that is paying rich duividends, feel Deep Daspupta.

“It is a huge achievement for him. The key for him was patience. He is a silent performer which I like the most about him,” said Deep, who was present at the B. Dasgupta store to launch the gloves.

The former India keeper, who saw Wriddhi grow in stature said, “Definitely feel proud to see a gloves being named after Wriddhi. During my childhood days, I used to keep with a gloves named after Kiran More. I am very happy that from now young cricketers will get a chance to wear the pair of gloves with Wriddhi’s name.”

Speaking about the speciality about the gloves, Wriddhi said, “Nowadays you can have personalized cricket gears according to your requirements. Speciality about these gloves is they have changed the leather. It feels comfortable. The sides have been adjusted keeping in mind my palm. They have sent me two pair of gloves according to the shape I prefer.”

It has been very challenging for Wriddhi to keep against the likes of Ashwin and Jadeja on turning tracks in Pune and Bangalore. He normally creates a rough on the practice wickets to try and adjust to the conditions. On being asked how challenging it is to keep on turning tracks, Saha said, “It is always a challenge for the keepers on a turning track. There is always a variation in bounce which was the case in both the test matches. It is always difficult to keep wickets on turning track as you cannot judge sometimes how much a ball will turn. Sometimes it becomes a blind zone for the keepers.”

Talking of great stumpers of yesteryear, the Bengal boy wished he could play a Test against Adam Gilchrist.
"I have rubbed shoulders with him in the IPL. It would have been a great experience playing against him in a Test."

Wriddhiman has taken some brilliant catches in recent times. The three catches that stands out are the ones he took of AB de Villiers, O’Keefe and Mathew Wade. But according to the man himself, he rates O’Keefe’s catch as the best.

“Among the three catches, the one I took off O’Keefe in Pune gave me a lot of satisfaction, as it was against a fast bowler (Umesh Yadav) and I was standing a little forward. So the reaction time was less to throw your body and get both your hands.”

Wriddhi did not prefer to comment on the absence of Mitchell Starc.

Wriddhi’s wife Romi wished he keeps on performing like the way he is doing at the moment.

“I always feel happy to see him getting success. I hope he goes on performing like what he is doing at the moment. With the passage of time he has gained in confidence and become matured. He has also improved on his patience,” said Romi.
