The Red and Gold brigade will be bolstered by their new Australian forward Chris Payne tomorrow for the very first time. The Asian foreigner has an illusive track record and has joined after a special certification from Coach Trevor Morgan.
When the British coach was asked about the availability of the new foreigner against Thangboi Singto's side, he said, "Yes, will be there in the eighteen men squad." The next match after the Kolkata derby has always been a "stumbling one" for East Bengal over the years. But Trevor replied, "I don't know anything like that and I'm not a believer of such myths either."
The key East Bengal players like Jackichand Singh, Romeo Fernandes, Arnab Mondal and Rowllin Borges are not getting opportunities in the East Bengal side despite being regular Indian internationals. The East Bengal gaffer seemed indifferent about the question as he said, "I'm the East Bengal coach, not the national team coach."
The Shillong Lajong side didn't have a promising start to the season but came up strongly of late in the points table. Trevor is giving a lot of respect to his opposition as well, "They are a good side. They are moving up in the points table. There is no point of taking them lightly. I don't like to make too many changes as well."
Arguably India's best central defender at present, Arnab Mondal has now fully recovered from the injury but the performance of the back four is giving no opportunity to his coach to include him in the starting eleven. Trevor clarified his current situation, "We are still unbeaten. Out of the eight games we played, we won six out of those. The most significant fact is that we haven't conceded a goal in the last four games."
East Bengal defence will be dealing with the highest goalscorer of the league so far, Dipanda Dicka. It is to see how the East Bengal defence stop the Cameroonian forward tomorrow.
