Kolkata: The title hopes for Kingfisher East Bengal are getting bigger and better as Trevor Morgan's side showed stupendous dominance in their last four consecutive games and especially against Minerva Punjab FC at Ludhiana by a thumping 5-0 victory to go on top of the league table by replacing Mohun Bagan a day back. Haitian midfielder Wedson Anselme scored a magnificent hat-trick to ensure the better goal difference, which was needed to go on top of the table. Robin Singh and Willis Plaza scored a piece to help Morgan’s side to register their biggest victory in Punjab. The team returned back from Punjab tonight via New Delhi and the entire team had do deal with a lot of problems while coming back as the flight was delayed.
The team returned in two groups and seemed completely fatigued due to the jet lag. East Bengal winger Lalrindika Ralte seemed excited about the recent progress of the team but stated, "Yes, we are playing really well. But to win the league, we need to beat Mohun Bagan on both the legs and have to beat Bengaluru FC away."
The star left midfielder also mentioned that the team is hungry and determined to excel in the forthcoming games. East Bengal will play Santosh Kashyap's Mumbai FC on Wednesday and because of the delayed flights, the Red & Gold Brigade will train at the Mohammedan Sporting ground tomorrow at 10am in the morning. Kashyap's team had a great start in this year's competition but stumbled in their last three consecutive games. It is to see what challenge they can throw towards Trevor Morgan's in-form brigade in the 6th round of the Hero I-League.
