Internet Desk: Due to the poor quality of rehabilitation centres of cricket in Kolkata, Indian ace pacer Mohammed Shani has been asked to join the Indian T-20 side to work on his fitness issues, as informed by MSK Prasad, the chairman of the Indian selecting committee. Shami is recovering from a long term knee injury, sustained in the test series against England.

"The facilities in his hometown are not good enough. That's why we asked him to come to Kanpur so that the team physio could keep a proper tab on his improvement," chairman of selectors MSK Prasad told ToI on Tuesday. He also confirmed that Shami will not take part in the T20 series.

Shami couldn’t complete his rehab process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as the chief trainer Patrick Farhart was busy of designing a model for the trainers across the country. Another trainer Anand Date is also not there due because he is with the national team where as physio Rajnikanth is busy working with the U-19 team, who will play against England U-19 in Nagpur from Feb 13.

Shami has also been kept out of Bengal's first two Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 matches, that begin on January 29.

"He hasn't recovered. How can he be allowed to play? We need to be very careful with him.

"We have a big Test series coming up against Australia. We want him to play. As I have earlier stated, we want to stay at the top of the Test rankings for as long as possible. If he stays fit, we will get a fair idea how he is doing in the shorter formats during the IPL," Prasad said.
