Image Source: XtraTime[/caption]Internet Desk: Things are getting better and better for Trevor Morgan's Red & Gold brigade, as Kingfisher East Bengal showed stupendous dominance over Minerva Punjab FC at Ludhiana by a thumping 5-0 victory to go on top of the league table by replacing Mohun Bagan today. Haitian midfielder Wedson Anselme scored a magnificent hat-trick to ensure the better goal difference, which was needed to go on top of the table. Robin Singh and Willis Plaza scored a piece to help Morgan's side to register their biggest victory in Punjab. This has been the fourth successive victory for East Bengal in this Hero I-League.
In the 6th minute of the game East Bengal got their first opportunity when Dika played the corner short which was smartly worked to the Strikers by Poojary and Robin's header went just inches over the bar.
In the 8th minute East Bedngal got their opening goal of the match. A foul was conceded by Minerva captain Arashpreet by tripping Robin Singh on the edge of the box and Dika chipped it beautifully to help Wedson found the back of the net.
East Bengal continued to attack as Willis Plaza got a fine opportunity as Robin Singh delivered him a great ball forward. But the Caribbean international couldn't find the back of the net. In the 20th minute, Wedson's fine attempt from distance went just over the bar.
East Bengal got their second goal in the 40th minute when Bheke crossed a superb ball from the right and Plaza scored a sublime individual goal to make it 2-0.
In the second half, East Bengal tried to put more pressure on the home side who are languishing at the bottom of the league table. In the 63rd minute, Wedson's attempt was handled inside the box by Nigerian defender Kareem and East Bengal got a penalty. Wedson Anselme didn't miss the opportunity to score from the spot.
In-form Robin Singh scored the 4th goal for East Bengal when he eased past onrushing Arnab Das Sharma with a precision finish. But the best move for East Bengal came in the 66th minute when Willis Plaza played a delightful through ball for Wedson and the Haitian accepted the gift gleefully to complete his desired hat-trick.
Minerva got a few opportunities to reduce the margin in the last quarter but the vigilance of Ivan Bukenye and goalkeeper TP Rehenesh didn't allow them to trouble the score-sheet.
The way Trevor Morgan's brigade has been performing, Kingfisher East Bengal has slowly been becoming an inexorable force to stop in the Hero I-League 2017.
