Internet Desk: Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan will be hopeful of getting the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium for hosting their I League matches. Both clubs had shown Rabindra Sarobar as their home venue for the forthcoming I League season 2016-17 to the Federation.

Atletico de Kolkata also use the same venue for their home matches in the ensuing Hero Indian Super League (ISL). Both clubs were somewhat forced to take such a decision due to the unavailability of the Salt Lake Stadium which is getting ready for the FIFA U’17 World Cup in India. The big two clubs have also shown Barasat stadium as their home venue.

I League CEO Sunando Dhar, who was in Kolkata on Monday to inspect the venue said, “The facilities are okay to host I League matches. The Federation has no problems in giving the matches at the venue. But both clubs first need to get a clearance from Atletico de Kolkata and State Government to host their matches at the venue.”

Mr Dhar will also visit Barasat stadium on Tuesday. In fact Barasat is also thought as a prospective venue for the I League. It hosted I League matches last season as well.

East Bengal has also given the name of Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri for the first I League derby as it is their turn this season
