Messi not going anywhere, says Barcelona president Bartomeu | File Image[/caption]Internet Desk: Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has put an end to the speculation that Lionel Messi will leave the club. It was reported earlier this week that the Argentine superstar had put his contract renewal talks on hold which led to the speculation that he could leave the club.
During a sponsorship deal announcement with Japanese technology company Rakuten, Bartomeu calmed the Barca fans who are worried about Messi departing after the 2018 World Cup.
The Barcelona superstar was linked to having talks with his former coach Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
"We're all convinced, we're all positive Leo Messi will end his sporting career at Barca. All the members of Barca believe this is how it has to be, because he is the player that in the last few years has brought us success," Bartomeu said.
That should ease some of the concerns. It has never felt likely that Messi would leave the club unless for hometown team Newell's in Argentina way down the road and the expectation is for him to ultimately re-sign. It hasn't been confirmed by the club that Messi has put talks on hold, so we have to just wait and see.
In the end, Barca fans should rest easy knowing he isn't likely to go anywhere.
The Catalan giants have already sealed a deal with Neymar. The Brazilian signed a new five-year contract with the club in October that will keep him with the Spanish giants until 2021.
European Golden Shoe winner Luis Suarez is also believed to be in talks with the club.
