Internet Desk: KL Rahul has been drafted in the Indian test squad for the second test match against England which gets underway in Vizag from Thursday. The Karnataka opener has been included in the side as the 16th member.

Rahul, who suffered a hamstring injury in the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur, was forced to miss out on the remainder of the series along with the first test against Australia in Rajkot.

The opener is coming back after proving his fitness in Ranji Trophy Group B match against Rajasthan. He scored a brilliant 106 runs to justify his selection.

The inclusion of Rahul meant Gautam Gambhir will have to sit out for the second test against England.

Gambhir has been struggling to come to terms ever since hius return to the Indian side after more than two years. A string of failures in the recent innings has forced the team management to call Rahul.

Former cricketers like Gundappa Vishwanath, Roger Binny has been criticizing Gambhir’s poor form with the bat.

Rahul, who went to NCA for rehabilitation has recovered fully. As is the mandate nowadays, players are required to prove their fitness at the first-class level before being deemed eligible for an international recall. In his comeback game for Karnataka, KL Rahul showed absolutely no signs of rust.

On his first innings after comeback, he scored a brisk 76 and followed it up with a fluent 106 runs. It was his knock in the second innings that influenced the selectors to pick him in the squad.

In his 9 Tests so far, Rahul has already amassed 3 Test centuries and also has a century in each of the other formats.
