It was Forlan’s goal that helped Mumbai clinch an away win against Atletico at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium on October 25. The Mohun Bagan custodian managed to get his hands to Forlan’s shot from inside the box, only to see it fisted to the top of the nets.
“It was a bad miss I must confess. I was in the right position to save the shot from Forlan.”
Debjit, who got a call from his club coach Sanjay Sen the same night after the match explained what went wrong.
“Yes, Sanjay Sir did call me up and pointed out my mistake I shouldn’t have committed. It was definitely one of the worst moments for me.”
The Mohun Bagan custodian was later seen getting a pat on his back by Mumbai City FC’s Sony Norde. The Haitian International, who also play for Mohun Bagan in the I League embraced Debjit after the match.
The talented goalkeeper from Hooghly is having a satisfying ISL season so far under the bar for Atletico de Kolkata. He has already won the confidence of his coach. During his stint with Mumbai City FC, he didn’t get enough opportunities as well.
“I must admit I made the right decision to come to Atletico de Kolkata. Here I am getting more opportunities than Mumbai City FC. I am grateful to our coach Molina for giving me the opportunity in the first eleven.”
Atletico has also signed Spanish goalkeeper Dani Mallo along with Shilton Paul.
Talking about his best match so far, the Atletico goalkeeper pointed out, “the match against North East was the best. We came from behind to win the match.”
Atletico will next face FC Pune City on Sunday. The team had a closed door practice session after which the team will fly to Pune. Former Atletico coach Antonio Habas will be at the reserve bench for Pune, who are languishing at the bottom of the ISL points table. Asked whether the team will be worried about the presence of Habas in the opposition camp, Debjit said, “We are just looking as another match in ISL. We have not discussed about Habas in dressing room. Our focus will be to win against Pune.”
He also voiced the same concerns as his teammates playing in the Rabindra Sarobar stadium which do not boast of the same atmosphere.
Lastly, talking about his support for Sunil Chhetri and the Bengaluru FC team, Debjit commented, “There cannot be any doubt that I will support Bengaluru FC. If everything went right for us, we would also have made it to the semi finals of AFC Cup.” Signed off Debjit.
