Penn Orji is hopeful for a comeback to East Bengal | File Image[/caption]Kolkata: Nigerian footballer Penn Orji may be seen making a second return to East Bengal club. Penn, who last plied his trade with the Kolkata giants in the 2012-13 season may be back for his second stint with the club. The midfielder produced an outstanding performance with Shillong Lajong in the I League last season.
According to club sources, Penn is in regular contact with East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan. The Red and Gold gaffer after meeting Penn in Shillong last season asked him to wait before deciding about his future. Penn was not signed by the club for Kolkata League due to budget issues. Morgan himself wasn’t sure about his stint with East Bengal in the new season. But the latest development has opened up a prospect of Penn plying his trade with East Bengal. The British coach approached Penn last month and told him that he is very much in his planning for the forthcoming I League. Morgan also had a word with the officials.
The Nigerian when approached by xtratime.in did admit of the latest developments. According to Penn, “I am hopeful of returning back to Kolkata. At the moment I am waiting for Morgan’s call. I am very optimistic.”
The Nigerian footballer left East Bengal as he had differences of opinion with the club football secretary Babu Bhattacharya. He joined another Kolkata club Md. Sporting.
The East Bengal football secretary who went to Shillong last season with the team did not wish to make any comment about Penn.
Amidst the news of Penn, there is some bad news for the club as well. Both Cavin Lobo and Bikash Jairu are doubtful for I League action next season. Lobo, who had an operation on his knee in May is yet to recover. According to Lobo, “I am not sure how long it will take to recover. I'm trying my best to recover but cannot promise about the timeline. I feel extremely disappointed not to be part of the action right now.”
Another footballer Bikash Jairu is also doubtful for I League. Jairu, who suffered an injury while training with Atletico de Kolkata is still sidelined. Jairu himself is not very hopeful about returning back to the field before February.
