Image Source: ISL[/caption]Internet Desk: Chennaiyin FC footballers drew inspiration from team owner MS Dhoni as they salvaged a draw against Atletico de Kolkata in an Indian Super League match in Chennai on Sunday. The home team after being a goal down against Atletico managed to equalize late into the second half through a Davide Succi header.
It was like homecoming for the Indian ODI captain, who is also the owner of Chennaiyin FC. Dhoni made a visit to the Marina Arena for the first time this season in ISL. A capacity crowd of 25000 welcomed the Indian ODI captain at the Marina Arena, as he was seen engrossed at the battle in the middle.
Dhoni, who has seen packed stadiums at the Chepauk for Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, appreciated the fans to come in numbers to cheer the home team. He has been the captain of two times IPL champions Chennai Super Kings.
“It is always good to see the support for the home team. For me it was like home coming. It was great to return to Chennai.”
Away from cricket, Dhoni was seen earlier cheering his team Chennaiyin FC against Delhi Dynamos at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi few days back. He was unlucky then as French international Florent Malouda-inspired Delhi Dynamos to a 4-1 win. It looked as if the home side will face a similar fate as Atletico lead mid-way into the match by a Postiga goal. Much to the joy of the fans, Succi scored the equalizer.
Dhoni considered the result to be a fair one. “It would have been nice to end up on the winning side. But nevertheless it was a fair result. Both teams played well,” said Dhoni about the result.
Talking about the crowd support, Dhoni commented, “Football is quite popular in these parts. It is good to see crowd coming in numbers to cheer the home side.”
Dhoni isn’t the only cricketer who owns a team in the Indian Super League. Indian test captain Virat Kohli co-owns FC Goa and was spotted in one of their matches with Anushka Sharma.
