Internet Desk: United World Wrestling, on Tuesday announced that London Olympics 2012 Gold medalist Togrul Asgarov has never failed a dope test. The announcement would mean that chances of Yogeshwar Dutt’s silver medal being upgraded to gold has now been dashed.

Dutt had won a bronze medal in the 2012 Games in the men’s freestyle 60kg category. In August, it was announced that silver medalist, the late Russian wrestler Besik Kudukhov, had tested positive for a dope test and hence would have his medal stripped. Dutt’s bronze was subsequently upgraded to a silver.

The world body for wrestling had not yet announced if gold medal winner Togrul Asgarov of Azerbaijan had been in violation of any anti-doping rules. This led to speculations about Dutt’s eligibility to have his silver then upgraded to gold. But the UWW confirmed on Tuesday in a tweet that Asgarov’s victory was indeed a legal one and that would mean the end of Indian’s chances of winning another gold.
