A 74’ goal from Neymar led the team in the safe zone to qualify for 2018 World Cup. On the other hand Argentina dropped to third spot coming out with a draw against Venezuela.
Brazil took an early lead with a goal from Miranda within two minutes of the match. However, they could not retain the lead as Colombia scored the equalizer in the 36’ by Marquinhos.
It was barely a slow match until Neymar scored the winning goal at 74’. After this win Brazil came up to the second spot, from the fifth spot, having just one point less to the topper Uruguay.
Argentina was stuck by mighty Venezuela making a draw of 2-2. However, Argentina missed their top player Lionel Messi in this match. A galaxy of attacking talent including Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala, needed an 83rd minute equaliser from Nicolas Otamendi to salvage the draw.
In another match of the Conmebol group Uruguay had a big win over Paraguay. Scoring four goals and conceiving none they retained their first position. Paraguay had entered the match in Montevideo optimistic of an upset following their win over Copa America champions Chile last week.
But a magnificent individual performance from Suarez -- who laid on two goals for Edinson Cavani before scoring one himself from the penalty spot -- left Paraguay reflecting on a humbling defeat. Cristian Rodriguez scored the other goal for the Uruguayans.
Among the world cup qualifier teams of Europe there was a shock for Portugal as they lost to Switzerland by 2-0. The new European Champions were without Cristiano Ronaldo, but that was the case for the majority of their historic win in France too and it didn't seem to slow them down then. They were very poor in Switzerland, struggling to create any chances at all.
France, meanwhile, were left frustrated following a goalless draw from their opening Group A match in Belarus.
