Internet Desk: The lone gymnast from Indian contingent made history by reaching the final of Individual vault event. After a tense competition Dipa Karmakar reached the final by securing 8th rank. After all it is a good news for Dipa that she could perform her much preferred ‘Produnova’ vault.

Competing in the third sub-division, Dipa had an average score of 51.665. She managed to perform her excellent show to score 14.850 on the vault, 11.666 on the uneven bars, 12.866 in balance beam and 12.033 in floor exercises.

However, it was a nervous wait for the Indian after that. She had ended sixth after the third of five sub-divisions. She dropped to 8th eventually when Canadian Shallon Olsen's terrific effort of 14.950 rejigged the overall standings. Dipa secured 7.000 on difficulty and 8.1 on execution in her first attempt. Her score for difficulty was a tad lower at 6.000 in the second attempt. She landed low on her Produnova vault in the first attempt, while her second vault was a 'Tsuk double full twist' with step to the side.

The final event will not be so easy for the Tripura girl. She has secured the final berth as the last qualifier. Only some brilliant show from her can give her a chance to reach the Medal podium. On 14th August she will be playing the final event.
