Daniel Bidemi training ahead of Peerless SC match. Xtra Time[/caption]Kolkata: Despite having 3 prize foreign weapons, Mohun Bagan coach Shankarlal Chakraborty is reluctant to use his two utility flamboyances Haroon Amiri and Daniel Bidemi in the first xi in the all important clash against Peerless on Monday which happens to be their 5th match of the CFL.
The Green & Maroon brigade is having a roller coaster ride in this year’s Calcutta Football League. More importantly, the team is playing with a bunch of young, talented players who are hungry to make their way in the I-League squad in the later phase of the season. Another factor which can comfort the Bagan coach, is the fact that the team is not at all over-reliant on any individual to score goals. Apart from their Irish spearhead Darryl Duffy, youngsters like Prabir Das, Azharuddin Mallick, talents like Saran Singh, Tapan Maity, all are chipping in with important goals this season.
Saran Singh too is high on confidence after his “scorpion flick” against Bhowanipore in the last game which gave a very important 3 points to the Mariners. The goal reminded the brilliance of the Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic and has already been recommended as one of the best goals of the CFL 2016.
Though the Mohun Bagan coach Shankarlal is a bit circumspect before taking on Peerless as the team managed by Fuja Tope handed them a shocking defeat in the pre-season friendly. Bagan lost that game by 0-2 as former Indian captain Rahim Nabi played outstandingly well. Apart from Nabi, players like former East Bengal central midfielder Sukhwinder Singh, Nigerian defender Kingsley, all are determined to prove their worth against the Kolkata Giants. After the training, the Bagan coach said, “They are a formidable side. They have a few quality players in their ranks. The team is really good on the wings and defence. It will be tough for us but we are ready and circumspect.”
The Mohun Bagan boss is delighted with the availability of Haroon Amiri and Daniel Bidemi but don’t want to break the winning combination tomorrow. He stated,” The biggest plus is the fact that they can play in different positions, such is their utility. As a coach you always love to have such weapons. But they will start from the bench, not in the first eleven.”
The Mariners Boss had a light training session this morning by spreading the squad in three different groups. The heavy downpour and wet outfield were not at all conducive for the Bagan coach to risk the training ahead of such crucial encounter on tomorrow.
Probable Team: Arnab Das Sharma, Sarthak Golui, Raju Gaikwad, Sanjay Balmuchu, Tonmoy Ghosh ; Prabir Das, Saran Singh, Tapan Maity, Rayner Fernandes, Darryl Duffy, Azharuddin Mallick.
