Five sports persons disappointed India the most in Rio 2016

Internet Desk: As India sent the largest contingent in Rio this year expectation for Medal was also high. However, it was depressing that the Medal tally fell at the end of the Games.

Several Medal contenders failed in this Olympics which is a very bad sign for Indian sports. This caused the fall of the number of winning Medals from the London 2012. In-spite of increasing the quality of good sports Indian sports persons kept bad examples in Rio 2016.

Lots of expectation was on the most experienced tennis player of India. Leander played his seventh Olympic this year. Starting from 1992 Barcelona Olympics Leander won only a Bronze in 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Apart from the 1996 Olympic he played in doubles events.

This year he played the men’s doubles pairing with Rohan Bopanna. In previous Olympic Leander reached the round of 16 pairing with Vishnu Vardhan. Also in the mixed-doubles he reached the quarterfinals. Disappointing all Indian fans this time the veteran tennis star could not pass through the round of 32 losing to Lukasz Kubot and Marcin Matkowski of Poland.

The Bronze Medalist of 2012 London Olympic raised the expectations of Indian fans previously. Many of the countrymen also betted on her Medal winning also. But she disheartened all of them in this Olympic.

This time in Olympics she made an exit from the group stage. In the opening match she won by raising the expectation of fans and supporters. But in the next match she filed to enter the round of 16. Prior to the Olympic she was injured on her right knee. Despite of that injury she went to the games. She paid the cost by earning disrespect by loosing in group stage.

Male wrestlers of India this year disappointed in a large scale. Previous Olympics gave India two Medals including a Silver and a Bronze from wrestling. This time Silver winner Sushil Kumar could not qualify for the Olympics. So the baton was handed over to the Bronze winner Yogeshwar Dutt.

Yogeshwar had his bout on the last day of the Rio 2016. Prior to that India had already achieved a Silver and a Bronze. This was much inspiration for Yogeshwar to go for a Medal. However, he lost his first bout to Ganzorigin Mandakhnaran of Mongolia. He waited for the Mongolian to reach the final. As he could not reach the final Yogeshwar lost all hopes to reach the Bronze Medal match.

Another Olympic Medalist shooter also disappointed the countrymen. Gagan Narang won the Bronze in London 2012 Olympics. This time, for valid reason, there was lots of expectation on him. But this time he returned India empty handed.

In Rio 2016 Gagan Narang played in three events of shooting. After having a disappointing shoot at the qualifying round of 10m Air Rifle he tried to give his best in 50m Air Rifle prone. However, like the 10m Air Rifle in his second event also he failed to qualify for the final coming at 13th spot. The most disappointing finish he gave in the 50m Air Rifle three position by coming at the 33rd spot.
