Internet Desk: Hope for Olympic medals is increasing each four years as Indian Olympians are overlapping themselves. This year in the Rio Olympics India will keep eye on eight to ten contenders who can earn medals. Eye will be on previous medal winners as well as on some rising stars.

Badminton

Saina Nehwal

Among all contenders the prime focus can be on shuttler Saina Nehwal who won Bronze in the London Olympics 2012. During last Olympics Saina was among the rising Indian shuttlers. She did not dishearten her fans and followers. After that performance Saina had upgraded her techniques. As a result she won silver in World Championship in 2015. Before the Rio Olympics she also got confident by winning the Australian Open this year.

Tennis

Sania-with-Leander

However, we cannot forget the name of Leander Paes and Sania Mirza. In the last Olympics Leander reached the quarterfinal in the mixed-doubles. This year also he is in the winning mood by winning French Open and advancing in the Wimbledon. However, he is taking part in men’s doubles only. After a good show in the Australian Open doubles event this year Indians hopes raised over Sania Mirza too. This year she is taking part in Olympics doubles event with Prarthana Thombare and in mixed-doubles event with Rohan Bopanna.

Shooting

Abhinav Bindra

After the success in two consecutive Olympic games eye will be on Indian Shooters too. In 2008 Abhinav Bindra won Gold, the best ever in Olympics by any Indian. Last time Vijay Kumar won Silver and Gagan Narang won Bronze in their respective events. This year Abhinav and Gagan are taking part. However, Vijay is not going to Rio.

Wrestling

However, it is very unfortunate that he cannot join this Olympics. However, previous time Bronze winner Yogeshwar Dutt will compete in his men’s freestyle 60 kg event. There will be eye on another new-comer Narsingh Pancham Yadav who won a Bronze in Men’s freestyle 74 kg event in the last year’s world championship.
Gymnastics

Dipa-Karmakar-with-her-coac

Apart from all these medal winners and events there will special eye on Dipa Karmakar who is the first ever athlete to take part in artistic gymnastic event in the Olympics. This 22 year girl from Tripura previously took part in Asian Championship last year where she won Silver in vault event. After that she got an entry to the Rio getting 52.698 points.

Boxing

Shiva-Thapa-01

There is another contender of Olympic medal among the boxers in Indian squad. Lastly Shiva Thapa won a Bronze in world Ameteur Championship in his 54 kg category in 2015. This is a bad news for India that this time there is no proper boxers like M. C. Mary Kom or Vijendra Singh taking part in Rio.
