The opening batsman from Delhi is putting in all the hard work and keeping his focus in preparing himself well for the tour of Caribbean. The left hander was seen working on his back-lift at the nets today.
While batting at the nets he had two cameras recording his stance as he had some issues with his back lift. “I am working on my back-lift at the nets as I had some issues with it. Whenever I find something wrong with my batting, I try and get it sorted out by discussing with the batting coach. I feel it does benefit my batting,” said Dhawan at the open media session here in Bengaluru.
The opener was also seen practicing facing short ball at the nets with batting coach Sanjay Bangar. He was also seen practicing with tennis ball in order to overcome his shortcomings.
Both Dhawan and Murali Vijay will have a huge role to play by giving the team a perfect start. He admitted that he and Vijay share a good rapport off the field which ultimately facilitates them to perform consistently for the team.
"I have been playing with Vijay for the past three years. I really enjoy playing with him. We are also good friends off the field and it is always good to play consistently with a batsman who brings a lot of comfort. Better understanding between us comes handy when we bat together," Dhawan told reporters after Indian team's training session at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Dhawan and Vijay are gradually emerging as a force to reckon with especially in the sub-continent since they collaborated in March 2013 during the Australia series.
Last year, Dhawan and Vijay became only the sixth pair in the history of Indian Test cricket to have completed 1,000 runs.
The dashing left hander feels it will be a learning experience for him to be playing under coach Anil Kumble. He stressed on the importance of Kumble’s work ethics and better communication from every player. According to him, "It is a great honour to play under him. We are enjoying our camp under him. He is one of the legends of the cricket and I am sure we are going to gain a lot of experience out of him."
Dhawan was diplomatic when asked to compare both Shastri and Kumble. What makes Kumble special according to Dhawan is his ability to read the mindset of the players. "He (Kumble) knows in and out whats happening in a players mind and I feel thats going to play a huge role. I can already feel he gives lot of cushion to players," he said.
Dhawan feel the Indian team stands a good chance to win the series against the West Indies as the boys are putting in their best to prepare themselves well. "We feel we can pull of yet another series win against West Indies because the hosts are in transition period and still trying to find their base. This, we are going to take advantage of and try to get on top of them," Dhawan said.
The Delhi batsman took some time off to take a ride in an auto in and around the city. He later tweeted, "Enjoying the auto ride in Bangalore with my friend after years, maza aa gaya!! Flying like a Ferrari!!!"
On a lighter note he said, " I enjoyed riding an auto as I used to do when I was a kid. It was a wonderful experience after a long time . I must also say I love the city of Bangalore" signed off Dhawan.
