Bengaluru: Anil Kumble had the first opportunity to look at Virat Kohli and his boys at the nets on Thursday after being appointed the India coach few days back.  Persistent rains here in Bengaluru for the last few days forced the Indian cricketers practice at indoors yesterday on the first day of the preparatory camp. The cricketers got an opportunity to practice outdoor today as it stopped raining from morning. Both the batsmen and the bowlers had a quality session at the nets under the watchful eyes of Kumble. Missing out on the first day’s practice session under Anil Kumble was off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who will join the team tommorow.

Indian test captain Virat Kohli did not waste any opportunity in getting some batting practice at the nets in front of Kumble. He was the first to go into the nets along with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. There was nothing extraordinary that was noticed in the first practice session under Kumble as the batsmen batted at three nets. Two nets were designated for the fast bowlers and spinners while batting coach Sanjay Bangar and support staff Raghavendra gave throw downs to each batsman once they finished their batting at the other two nets. What was interesting was the batsmen were given short ball practice aimed at their ribs by Bangar .

Entire focus at the Indian practice session today was on the new coach. The man who spent bowling during his playing days at the nets here at NCA was seen instructing the bowlers, particularly faster bowlers like Ishant and Umesh. He was also seen having an extended session with Stuart Binny.

The most interesting part of the net session came towards the end of the first session when the most successful Indian bowler could not resist his temptation of bowling at the nets, as he was seen rolling his arms at Cheteswar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha, Ajinkya Rahane and Murali Vijay. Later during the second session he was seen having a session with Pujara and giving a few tips as well.

As he mentioned yesterday at his first official press conference, he is focusing more on getting used to the players and their mentality. “In the camp, I am just trying to get used to the players,” said Kumble on Wednesday.

Opener Murali Vijay was quite excited at the prospect of Kumble being appointed as the Indian team coach.

"It is a great opportunity for youngsters to talk to him about cricket and learn from him and move forward. So it will be a great time for us," the opening batsman said further.
Replying to a query, Vijay said the team had a great time with Ravi Shastri when he was Team Director and the players are certain to learn many tricks from Kumble.
"We had a great time with Ravi Bhai, and Anil Bhai has picked up for now, and hopefully we can have good time with him and learn lot of things from him. He has been an unbelievable cricketer for India," he said.

The Indian cricketers are scheduled to play a practice match among themselves at Alur on August 03.
