Arnab shines in East Bengal’s comprehensive 4 wickets win over Mohun Bagan

Internet Desk: A swashbuckling innings (157*) from Arnab Nandi helped East Bengal cruise to a comprehensive 4 wickets win over Mohun Bagan in the CAB 1st Div. League quarter final match at the JU campus in Salt Lake on Tuesday.The win also established East Bengal’s dominance over arch rivals Mohun Bagan in local cricket.

Chasing a target of 345 runs to win, East Bengal romped home with almost 13 overs to spare. The Red and Gold scored 350/6 in 72.2 overs.

Mohun Bagan shared the early honors after they reduced East Bengal to 52/4. But a 209 runs partnership for the fifth wicket between Arnab Nandi 157*(165) and Prasenjit Das 106 (149) tilted the match in East Bengal’s favour. Arnab played a scintillating knock withstanding the excessive heat. His innings was studded with 18 fours and 4 sixes. Prasenjit, who played a perfect foil for Arnab also reached the three figure mark. He scored 6 boundaries and 2 sixes on way to scoring his ton.

In another quarter final match Kalighat got the better of Aryans to reach the semi final. Both teams will now clash in the semi final to be played on April 23-24 at the Bengal Cricket Academy ground in Kalyani.

Speaking to the scribes after guiding his team to a win, Arnab said, "I always had it in mind that I cannot relax as it was derby. So,I kept my focus while chasing the runs. It was extremely difficult to bat under such heat."

Arnab, who had to leave Bengal in order to play for Railways in first class cricket is contemplating a return back to Bengal. According to Arnab, "I know I have to perform in every single match if I eye a comeback in the Bengal team. I have to make use of all the opportunities. My focus now will be to see the team through to final and win the league."
