U’18 I League : East Bengal edge out arch rivals Mohun Bagan 3-2

East-Bengal-U18-teamKolkata , December 13 : East Bengal  defeated arch rivals Mohun Bagan 3-2  in a thrilling  U18 I League encounter at the Mohun Bagan ground on Sunday. Budhwa Bara scored a brace and Achinta Ghosh scored the other goal as Tarun Dey’s boys came from behind to clinch an incredible win . Jerry Dresens Pulamte and Azaharuddin Mullick were the scorers for Mohun Bagan. Mohun Bagan drew first blood as they took the lead inside the first 7 minutes  of the match through Jerry . The Mohun Bagan academy striker blasted  a shot past the keeper from Abhinash Thapa’s pass. East Bengal settled down despite the early setback but had to wait for the equalizer until 27 minutes as Budhwa headed past the Bagan keeper off  a cross from Bijoy Roy. Achinta Ghosh doubled the lead for the  Red and Gold in the 40th minutes assisted by Somnath Nayek.  After conceding the goal Mohun Bagan supporters started to pelt stones in the ground but police was quick to react . East Bengal went back into the breather with an one goal advantage.Both teams started the second half with a positive intent to score. Azharuddin Mullick equalized for the home side from a corner  at the 55 minutes. He pushed East Bengal goalkeeper Amit Biswas but no foul was given  by the referee Debasish Mandi . East Bengal made a dramatic comeback at the81 st minute through Budhwa made no mistake heading the ball home from a Bijoy Roy cross .  Mohun Bagan coach Jo Paul Anchery was complained for a handball but the referre did not pay any heed to him. Mohun Bagan tried harder to equalize but the East Bengal defence stood still to deny them. EastBengal coach Tarun Dey sounded quite confident  of qualifying ,”We only need 1 points to qualify for the I-league main  round.” Tempers soared high during the match  with supporters  from  both clubs using abusive language. East Bengal coach felt ,“It’s bad for the spirit of the game”.

Mohun Bagan coach Jo Paul Anchery  credited the effort of his boys .”We played well today. Could have won the match if we utilized the chances.” Mohun Bagan coach was dragged into a slight controversy as he was away to do commentary for ISL matches ahead of the derby . On being asked why he left the team mid season to do commentary he said ,“I already had a contract with the ISl and had no ther options but to  to honour that”
