Put to bat first India scored a humongous 319/3 while in reply Pakistan made 164 runs thereby making India win the match by 124 runs.
On being asked whether he thought that India could wrap up the game so easily the Indian Skipper Virat Kohli said," We wanted to bowl first as well, in the morning. But seeing how quickly they opted to bowl, we felt like they're not necessarily wanting to chase a total down. And if we can get anything over six and a half runs an over, whatever overs we play, we'll be able to create some pressure and get wickets in the middle overs."
“ IF D/L method comes to play, you need to create the momentum and wickets can fall quickly. So playing dots is not an option, as it leads nowhere. You need to try and play a few shots and you lose wickets. It’s not something that happened for the first time, teams do tend to attack and get out, so it’s a normal thing. I would say this has been a clinical performance from our team” he added.
Kohli who has been part of many memorable victories against Pakistan said that this was a very important game for him and the team as every game in this tournament is big.
“It was a massive win for us. Just the way we played and the confidence we showed throughout the game was something that was very pleasing to see as a captain”.
Regarding the selection of the team, the Indian skipper who played a brilliant knock of 81 not out said that his side played an extra pacer purely because of the fact that it becomes a wicket taking option.
“I think the way Shikhar batted was really good to see. Rohit was taking a bit of time because, understandably so, he’s come back after so long to international cricket” said Kohli, praising his opening pair.
“The bat was way past the line. It’s just that it bounced and these things happen on the field. There’s nothing I can say more to the dismissal” said Virat on being questioned about Rohit Sharma’s dismissal.
“After the game was shortened, Yuvi decided that we were going to take it on. He started striking well. I couldn’t go for the big ones because it was tricky. When Yuvi came in, we didn’t go back out again. He started striking from ball one and it took the pressure off me. But when he got out I decided to stay still and connected a few strokes. And Hardik was unbelievable, the way he came out. And we switched in the end. They asked whether we should send Hardik ahead of MS. And everyone agreed because he can strike the ball from ball 1. So I think those three sixes and a boundary was probably a little difference as well as in the end” said Kohli when he was asked to describe the Indian batting innings.
