Tournament Director Steve Elworthy has ensured that the security arrangements are in place all throughout the tournament. The South African, who is also the Managing Director of the 2019 World Cup here in England was seen ensuring security arrangements personally for both the Indian and Pakistani teams as they left the Edgbaston cricket ground yesterday. The tournament director was seen having discussions with the security personnel, the coach drivers along with the security officer of Indian team. The coach carrying the Indian cricketers was cordoned by security personnel as they boarded the bus.
A white van rammed into people walking on the pavement near London Bridge at about 10pm local time on Saturday, and then three men in the vehicle stabbed civilians in the nearby Borough Market. At least six people, including the three terrorists, were killed, and around 50 people were injured.
The ICC in a statement made it clear that they are not leaving any stone unturned to see the tournament gets over smoothly. The Indian team has been briefed about the security arrangements in place. The five key security arrangements for Indian team are as follows:
Indian players asked not to leave the team hotel without the prior permission of the security personnel.
The fans were not allowed to enter the team hotel where the Indian players are staying.
Tight security will be in place where the Indian team is staying for the remainder of the tournament.
Team India’s hotel was put on lock down on Saturday night with no visitors or cars allowed inside the premises.
Indian cricketers have been told to inform the team’s security personnel before planning to go out for dinner.
