The CAC members were supposed to meet with the CEO to discuss the issue of new coach. According to reliable sources, Indian captain Virat Kohli was also supposed to be present in the meeting. But due to logistical reasons the meeting had to be cancelled.
The Cricket Advisory Committee - Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman – was supposed to meet the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the coach issue in London on Friday afternoon.
There was rumours in the media that Indian captain stayed back in Birmingham to meet the CAC members while the other players left for London to take part in Sunday’s mouth watering clash against Pakistan in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy. Kohli did not travel with the team because of some personal commitments.
Reports of a rift between Kohli and current coach Anil Kumble had surfaced soon after the BCCI issued an advertisement for the next coach. But the Indian board maintained it was only following procedures and processes.
Ganguly, Laxman and Tendulkar, who had roped in Kumble as coach for a one-year period in 2016 in place of Ravi Shastri, have firmly backed the legendary leg-spinner to continue.
Kumble, meanwhile, will travel with the team to the West Indies for a limited-overs series comprising five ODIs and a one-off T20 International after the end of the Champions Trophy.
