Image Source: XtraTime[/caption]Kolkata: Mohun Bagan captain Katsumi Yusa led the side by an example as the Mariners thumped defending champions Bengaluru FC by a resounding 3-0 margin to come back strongly in championship race at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium today.
Mohun Bagan started the game in an emphatic fashion as Sony Norde created the first attack of the game in the 4th minute through a sublime solo run, leaving defenders like Sandesh Jinghan and John Johnson in complete discomfort. Though his attempt went straight to Amrinder Singh. In the 5th minute, Duffy got another great chance but his header was off-target.
In the 12th minute of the game, Katsumi Yusa's goal was cancel due to off side. The Mariners took the lead in the 14th minute when Amrinder Singh conceded a soft goal as Bagan's Captain Katsumi Yusa found the back of the net.
The Green and Maroon brigade doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Sony Norde delivered a delightful free kick for Scottish forward Darryl Duffy, who placed his header in immaculate perfection to make it 2-0, which happened to be his 7th goal of the competition.
Bagan continued to attack and got another brilliant opportunity when Katsumi Yusa delivered a fine free kick for Duffy but his header missed the target by some distance.
Bengaluru's awful show continued in the second half as well. Mohun Bagan scored their third and the insurance goal in the 53rd minute as Haitian Sony Norde made a gorgeous from his own half and then found Katsumi in a vacant space on the right. The Japanese took a brilliant shot on the far post and Amrinder's outstretched hands failed to have a touch on it.
In the 62nd minute, Sony once again initiated a fine move to find Katsumi on the left but the Japanese failed to put the ball at thye back of the net. Bengaluru got their first opportunity in the 66th minute but CK Vineeth failed to put the shot on target.
Though Sanjoy Sen's men created moves one after another in the last twenty minutes, the BFC defence somehow managed to keep their goalmouth intact.
The win will no doubt bolster the chances for the Bagan brigade to clinch their second I-League title as they now have 25 points from 13 games and just two points shy of arch rivals East Bengal with a game on hand.
