Barasat: Huge drama unfolds in the match between East Bengal and Minerva Punjab as a fight takes place between Robin Singh and Wedson Anselme as the Red-Yellow brigade defeats minnows from Punjab 3-1, in the penultimate Hero I-League match that took place in the Barasat stadium.

East Bengal had won a penalty in the second half and Robin Singh went up and collected the ball in his hands to take the penalty. Meanwhile Wedson too had similar thoughts and he went up to Robin and demanded the ball which was refused by Robin. Finally Bukeyna went up to an angry Wedson and asked him to calm down and let Robin take the penalty, which upon hearing, Wedson loses his cool and angrily throwing up his hands goes up to the centre line.

After the goal was scored from the spot by Singh, Cavin Lobo wanted to revive the team spirit among all the players and thus in fit of joy climbed on the back of Wedson. Wedson however still angry about the incidents that happened moments before threw Cavin Lobo off his back and walked away.

Ranjan Chowdhury, Asst. Coach of East Bengal however didn’t deny the above incident in the press conference. Ranjan said, "These events are very common in World Football and many a times we have witnessed such events." This incident certainly brings out the pressure factor that was within the East Bengal players after they suffered four successive defeats in the Hero I-League. He also believes back to winning ways would revive the confidence among the players of the team. On being further asked whether such completion, on who would take the penalty would be witnessed in the future, Chowdhury said, "This incident shows the character, as well as the hunger of a striker to score a goal and frankly speaking such incidents have been missing from Indian football". It can be said that Chowdhury has certainly tried to hide the controversy regarding this tussle between the two forwards.

A win was needed after a series of loses and this would bring a relief to East Bengal. Chowdhury also said that he needs time to change as no change can be brought overnight. On being questioned about the defence of the team, he said a little change is required but that would be dealt upon later.

Surinder Singh coach of Minerva Punjab FC has said, "My team had created many chances but couldn’t score any. The second penalty that was awarded to East Bengal threw us out from the match."

The players of Minerva Punjab were asked to return to their home after having played their last match of the League.
