Image Source: East Bengal Samachar[/caption]Kolkata: I-League toppers Kingfisher East Bengal returned back to Kolkata today after a crucial away victory over their "bogey team" Shillong Lajong yesterday. Newly signed Australian Christopher Payne, who scored a couple of great goals for the Kolkata outfit, was certainly the centre of attractions at the airport.
East Bengal will next play Churchill Brothers on Tuesday who had a remarkable victory yesterday against league contenders Mohun Bagan. The East Bengal gaffer though seemed not interested about the defeat of the Mariners but appreciated the Goan boss. “Derreck has been doing a wonderful job with Churchill Brothers and credit should large go to him for their recent success. But we have no other option but to win every game from now on. The boys are ready and know what they need to do,” said coach Trevor Morgan.
Trevor pointed that Payne was unlucky not to have scored a hat-trick but mentioned that Robin too could have scored from that chance, “I think Chris was very unfortunate just maybe not to get a third goal. Good bit of play with Robin, but it could have been a goal for Robin as well. These all are parts of the game."
The British coach was asked whether his defence is a concern for the next game, but he said, “I don't think. We will have our plans in the training”.
Good news coming in for the Red and Gold brigade as their ace forward Willis Plaza has almost recovered his injury and might be available against Churchill Brothers on Tuesday.
“We’ve managed to get two wins from two away games, we’ve got a home game coming up now which we need to win. We have one more game then we have the break. The break will give everybody the chance to give the players some time off. Everyone gets the chance to recharge their batteries but we have to keep ourselves in the mix so when we come back with the few games to go, we’re ready”.
