Barasat: East Bengal's inexorable run continues in the Hero I-League as they consolidated their lead at the top of the table by getting past Mumbai FC 2-0 in the sixth game of Hero I-League at the Barasat Stadium on Wednesday.

The Red and Gold brigade will miss their midfield general Mehtab Hossain against Chennai City FC in their next game on 5th February for suspension. The experienced defensive midfielder picked up his fourth yellow card of the league and will be suspended against the Chennai based I-League franchise. But East Bengal might consider themselves fortunate to get a fresh Mehtab against the arch-rivals Mohun Bagan on the 12th February at Siliguri.
Mumbai had a concern as Victorino’s stay on the field was short-lived as the former Sporting Clube de Goa wide forward collided with East Bengal fullback Narayan Das and seemed to have a concussion. Steven Dias replaced him moments later as he was stretchered off.

East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan seemed ecstatic about the performance of his side, especially after having a long journey from Ludhiana a day back and hardly having the time to recover the fatigue. Trevor said, "My team played fantastic football today. In all departments things went according to our plan and I am really happy."

Willis Plaza proved to be the game-changer after scoring two sublime individual goals against Mumbai FC. Trevor said, "Both the goals Plaza scored today were simply phenomenal. It has been a fantastic performance by our centre forward." Plaza too seemed satisfied with his match-winning contribution. The Caribbean said, "I want to dedicate this performance to the fans, our players and of course our coach who have always supported me."

Mumbai FC was extremely annoyed on the referee for cancelling their goal in the 84th minute but the match commissioner later clarified that the last attempt finished at the outside part of the net and thus given a goal kick.
