Maintaining lead on top will be a challenge, says Morgan after Mariners win

Red and Golds likely to have changes in the playing XI against Aizawl FC

Internet Desk: Mohun Bagan has started breathing over East Bengal’s shoulders after Saturday’s comprehensive 3-0 win over DSK Shivajians. The win took Mariners at par with East Bengal in the points table. Both the Kolkata giants ended the first leg of the I League with 21 points from 9 matches. But the Red and Golds find themselves on top with a better goal difference.

East Bengal has scored 18 goals while conceding 4 goals. Mohun Bagan on the other hand has netted 15 goals and has so far let in 4 goals. East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan is keeping a close watch on the situation.

According to Morgan, “We knew there will be such a situation. There will be more pressure like this. But the boys are ready to take on the challenge of maintain the lead on top.”

The Red and Gold footballers had a rigorous training session at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl. Coach Morgan trained the boys in the same time when the match will be played. It was just to get a feel of the conditions prevailing at the hill.

On being asked about the Aizawl FC squad, Coach Morgan said, “They are a good side. We have sat down together and analyzed their matches they played earlier in the I League. The boys remember drawing the first match at Barasat. But I am a person who does not entertain negativity creep into my players.”

On the team news defender Gurwinder Singh is yet to recover from the shoulder injury that he sustained in the match against Shillong Lajong. Arnab Mondal  may start proceeding s against Aizawl FC in place of Gurwinder. Rahul Bheke may make way for Robin Gurung while Nikhil Pujari might be replaced with Abinash Ruidas.
