Kolkata: East Bengal gets an early stumble in the Hero I-League opener against an enthusiastic Aizwal FC side at the Barasat Stadium today. But the last few minutes of the game sparked controversy and heated conversations between the two teams as Aizwal FC played with 12 men when Lalthakima came on for an injured Kamu who also continued after taking some treatment from the physio. Fourth official Ajith Mitei tried to draw the attention of the match referee but Om Prakash Thakur didn't pay attention to him and continued the game.

Later in the post match press conference, East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan said, "I don't know The AIFF rules. Might be there's a replay of this game or the federation might penalize them for doing such thing." But Aizwal FC coach Khalid Jamil lightened the issue by saying, "I think there was some miscommunications. But the referee rightly showed the yellow card. So, I don't think there is much to talk about it."

Despite the fact that East Bengal is claiming to have lodged a complain against Aizwal, the Match Commissioner Rizwan Ul Haq denied of receiving any complain from the Red & Gold camp. He stated,"Firstly, instead of an own goal, we have decided to give the first goal to Kamo. And secondly, East Bengal might have complained to the media but we haven't received anything from them." He added, "These are parts and parcels of this game. This is not a major issue for me."

Meanwhile, East Bengal coach Morgan heaved a sigh of relief after the game, as he said, "Yes, a lucky escape for us. It was our first game. The players have played their part. Looking forward to the next game. We are settling in." Though the gaffer denied to speak any individual player, he didn't hesitate to crack a joke about the conceded goal initiated by Gurwinder Singh.

Trinidad & Tobago international Willis Plaza made his debut for the Red & Gold brigade today and showed the glimpses of his quality. After the game, Plaza said, "Not happy with my game today. I still have jet lag and I was tired as well."

It is to see how Trevor Morgan's men come back in their next game after an early stumble in the league.
