Image Source: XtraTime[/caption]Kolkata: Keeping all the players fit and refreshed and aiming to rectify the errors is the key element of succeeding in the marathon I league, says Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen.
The 2014/15 champions, who started the 2016/17 I-league in convincing manner by bagging three points each against Churchill Brothers and Shillong Lajong FC, are on course favourites to lift the crown alongside arch rivals East Bengal and defending champions Bengaluru FC. However, the gaffer thinks that they are not quite convincing in terms of the gameplay, "We have made some playground errors in the field during the last two games and our prime objective is to rectify them for the upcoming games".
The Mariners coach also said that he's not at all pressurizing his players to practice everyday. "There's no point complaining about the fixture as every team is playing in this pattern. My aim is too keep all of my players refreshed, so I am not forcing anyone of them to go through vigorous practice sessions everyday", Sanjoy added.
The green and maroon brigade recently got a huge morale booster as their heartthrob Sony Norde and new Brazilian defender Eduardo arrived in the city last week, however Sanjoy Sen doesn’t want to rush them directly in the starting XI. "We know the calibre of Sony, he's one of the prime squad players for us, who has been consistently performing for us over the last two seasons. Having him in the team always creates pressure on the opposition. However I have to hold discussions with him regarding his match fitness and then we'll know when we can utilise him."
In case of Eduardo, the bagan coach is highly confident of playing him in the upcoming games. "He attended the last two practice sessions and we have used him in the defensive unit, in his usual position. We'll see if we can play him in the upcoming matches". When asked about the team's approach towards the traditional mid-table teams, he said "Every team tries to put the medal in the pedal against title contenders, so we have to be on our toes to seal the win in such games". Bagan had an anxious moment in last game against Lajong when their ace holding midfielder Sehnaj Singh limped off with an injury, however according to Mr.Sen, the injury is minor and he'll be available for the next game.
Mohun Bagan Captain Katsumi Yusa also feels the same. The Japanese Playmaker said that the league is very much competitive now and we cannot directly point out any team to be minnows, which is a good sign for Indian football according to him.
The Kolkata based outfit are set to host Minerva Punjab FC at home next Tuesday, at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium.
