Internet Desk: The Kingfisher East Bengal side is ecstatic after two back to back away victories in the Hero I-League 2017. On Wednesday, they defeated Churchill Brothers by a comfortable 2-0 margin as Semboi Haokip and Lalrindika Ralte found the back of the net at the Tilak Maidan, Vasco da Gama.
The East Bengal fans would be relieved to know that their in-form central defender Anwar Ali's injury is not that serious and has been asked to take a couple of days' rest to recover from the injury he picked up in the 3rd minute of the game. Anwar had to get substituted early as he injured his groin after a small challenge against Costa. But the Red and Gold brigade is not fully assured to get him on Sunday against the defending champions Bengaluru FC.
East Bengal camp is happy to field all their foreigners for the first time this season and Kyrgyz international Ildar Amirov showed glimpses of his class when he was brought in for the last twenty odd minutes. Willis Plaza too was a constant threat in the first half.
The biggest positive for the East Bengal camp is certainly their Ugandan defender Ivan Bukenye as the big defender maintained his authority in the defence and never allowed the opposition to cash on the early exit of Anwar and a shaky Gurwinder in the central defence.
East Bengal rested two of their star players Robin Singh and Romeo Fernandes and didn't even keep them on the bench, as only 7 players were allowed to sit on the bench at Vasco.
Two consecutive away victories lifted East Bengal at the no.3 position in the league table after Bengaluru FC and Mohun Bagan.
