Ton up Warner helps Australia to win series over New Zealand. Image Source: Cricket Australia twitter[/caption]Internet Desk: David Warner scored his seventh ODI ton of the year to lead Australia to a comprehensive 117-runs victory over New Zealand to reclaim the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series 3-0.
The hosts had posted 324 and 378 in the first two games but set the Black Caps a relatively modest 265 to win in Friday's game.
But it proved too much for them in the vast expanse of the MCG as they collapsed to be all out for just 147 runs.
The victory was set up by Warner, coming off 119 at Manuka Oval, who added his second successive century -and fourth in his past six ODI matches.
He came within a whisker of carrying his bat, run out on the last ball of the innings while trying to add a quick single to his 156 off 128 balls.
The only real support for the opener came from Travis Head, who added an important 37 off 70 to arrest a middle-order collapse and help accompany Warner to three figures.
Playing his first ODIs on home soil, Head was the star for Australia in the series alongside Warner and captain Steve Smith.
He scored 52 and 57 in the first two games before his watchful innings in Melbourne, where he also took 2-37 with the ball, removing Martin Guptill (34) and BJ Watling (8).
Predictably, left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc led the attack with his yorkers earning him 3-34, while Pat Cummins backed up his best ODI figures with 2-26.
He also had the honour of finishing off the innings, although captain Smith stole the limelight by backing up his SCG screamer with another classic catch to send Trent Boult (1) on his way.
Australia started the Chappel-Hadlee series trying to avoid an historically bad six-game losing streak in ODIs but bounced back with wins in Sydney, Canberra and now Melbourne.
