Kolkata: India’s ace striker Jeje Lalpekhlua is inclined to sign in favour of Mohun Bagan. The star striker is likely to sign for the Mariners after November 23, when his agent Anuj Kichlu returns from the States.

Anuj, when contacted by xtratime.in confirmed that the striker will take a final call after 23rd of this month after he returns to India.

Both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan were in race to sign the striker. In fact both clubs did sent their contract papers to Anuj. But since he is out of the country, nothing is been officially announced.

According to sources, East Bengal has offered Jeje an amount which is at least 20 lakhs more than what he received in Mohun Bagan last season. But what may have influenced Jeje to sign in favour of Mohun Bagan is his relationship with the club officials, particularly Bagan assistant secretary Srinjoy Bose. The source also confirmed that Jeje, who plied his trade with the Federation Cup Champions last couple of seasons is comfortable with the atmosphere, the players and most importantly Bagan coach Sanjay Sen.

There is another logic that may influence him not to sign for East Bengal is the bitter relationship between his agent Anuj Kichlu and East Bengal officials. Both Anuj and EB officials were involved in a controversy surrounding the signing of Dhanachandra Singh couple of seasons back.

Easily the most sought after star in Indian football at the present moment, Jeje will be a big draw in the domestic transfer this season. Jeje himself in a recent interview to xtratime.in has clarified that he would like to continue another season in Kolkata for I League.

Jeje, who plied his trade with Mohun Bagan last season, has not given a final word to any of the clubs yet as he is busy playing in Indian Super League (ISL) for Chennaiyin FC. The talismanic striker has urged the officials to give him time to decide after the end of Indian Super League (ISL) season. Bagan’s arch rivals East Bengal is also leaving no stone unturned to have the striker playing for them in the forthcoming I League season.

If East Bengal further hikes their prices in the last moment then it is another story, but as of now the striker from Mizoram is more likely to stay with Mohun Bagan for another season.

The career of Jeje Lalpekhlua has just rocketed skywards in the past 12 months. It started with him winning the I League for Mohun Bagan in May 2015. Six months later, he was part of the victorious Chennaiyin FC side that won the ISL in Januray this year. The 25 year old diminutive striker stamped his authority in Indian football when he scored thrice in four matches to help India winning the South Asian Football Federation championship.
