Virat-Kohli

Internet Desk: He is undoubtedly the best batsman of the modern era. India’s test captain Virat Kohli has been a top notch performer for India in all formats. Kohli’s ability to be consistent makes him even more special. The dashing batsman has scaled several milestones ever since his debut in 2008.

Kohli’s transformation from a brilliant batsman to a successful test captain (won four consecutive series) puts him in the same bracket as Sachin Tendulkar.

On the occasion of his 28th birthday, xtratime.in takes a look at some of the best knocks played by the modern day run machine.

  1. 115 and 143 (1st Test: Australia v India at Adelaide, Dec 9-13, 2014)
A century in each innings of a Test against an attack consisting of Johnson, Harris, Siddle and Lyon. Although India lost the match by 48 runs, at one stage they looked like they can chase the target of 364 runs.

  2. 133* of 86 balls (11th Match: India v Sri Lanka at Hobart, Feb 28, 2012)
India required to chase Sri Lanka's 320 in 40 overs in order to stay alive in the tournament. There was just one way and Kohli went bang bang. Malinga went for 96 runs in his 7.4 overs.

  3. 183 off 148 balls (5th Match: India v Pakistan at Dhaka, Mar 18, 2012)
India chased the target of 330 in just 47.5 overs against Gul, Wahab, Ajmal, Hafeez and Afridi. Kohli's highest ODI score; a big hundred in any format of the game.

  4. 72* of 44 balls (World T20, 2nd Semi-Final: India v South Africa at Dhaka, Apr 4, 2014)
This is the match where when just one run was required to win, MS Dhoni blocked the last ball of 19th over and let Kohli score the winning runs. India chased down 172 in 19.1 overs; Kohli played just 3 dot balls in his whole innings.

  5. 82* of 51 balls (World T20, 31st Match, Super 10 Group 2: India v Australia at Mohali, Mar 27, 2016 )A virtual quarter-final, pressure situation; he always looked in control. 'Emotional' Kohli rates Mohali knock his best. Tendulkar also called it a special innings.

Kohli is having a great 2016, amassing 1,940 runs in International cricket. He has also scored 973 runs in IPL 2016. Apart from leading India to four consecutive test series wins, he has single handedly powered Royal Challengers Bangalore to the IPL final this season. The Indian test captain is only second to England batsman Joe Root. The way Kohli scores his runs makes him stand out from his competitors.
