Internet Desk: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is mulling the idea of bringing back Churchill Brothers in the forthcoming I League. The Goan club is awaiting the court orders to allow them to play in the I League. The Federation is also willing to bring them back following the pull out Goan clubs Salgaocar and Sporting Clube de Goa. Uncertainty looms large over the participation of Dempo SC as well.

The former I League champions were expelled from the I League after they failed to fulfill the licensing criteria of AFC in May 2014. Following which they moved to court to challenge the decision. The two time champions were thrown out of the league along with Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting and United SC.

According to reliable sources in the AIFF, the Goan club has pleaded in front of the court to allow them to play in I League. They have also assured the court about fulfilling the necessary AFC criteria for licensing, provided they are allowed to take part in the I League this season.

Confirming the development, I League CEO Sunando Dhar said, "If they get the orders from court, we will have no problem in getting them back in I League."

Churchill Brothers supremo Alemao Churchill on being contacted by xtratime.in said, “We are always in favour of football. If the Federation thinks about calling us back, we have no problems in fielding a team for I League.”

Churchill Brothers, who are currently playing in the Goa Pro League, are in the 8th position. They have so far garnered 10 points from 11 matches, which includes 3 wins and 7 losses.  They do not have any foreigners playing in their team.

The Churchill Brothers supremo on being asked whether there is enough time to field a team for the I League, Mr Alemao said, “We already have a team in place currently playing in Goa Pro League. If we get the nod for I League, we will take four foreigners in the side.”

The Goan club is entangled in legal battle with the AIFF for the last couple of years following the Federation’s decision to throw them out of the I League.

There is a speculation making rounds that Mr Alemao and AIFF President Praful Patel might have worked out a formula which will pave the way for the two time champions back in I League. The chances are more so with the former MP from Goa joining the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which also have the Federation President as a senior member.

It goes to be seen whether the Federation will rethink its decision and bring back the Goan club in I League or not.
