Ashwin still is the best spinner in the country says Prasanna. File Pic[/caption]Internet Desk: Former legendary spinner Erapalli Prasanna termed the lackadaisical bowling performance of the Indian spinners in Rajkot test as 'a bad day in office'. The former spinner in an interview to www.xtratime.in correspondent Sabyasachi Bagchi revealed, "There can be a bad day to any bowler, that doesn't mean Ashwin is a bad bowler. He still is the best spinner in the country and i am sure he will bounce back in the second innings".
With England putting up a massive total of 537 in the first innings Prasanna feels," I feel the Indian spinners have tried too hard to take wickets. They have given extra effort to get wickets and at times shifted from doing the basics right. After the success in the New Zealand series and defeat of England at the hands of Bangladesh the cricketers didn't take the English team very seriously".
Prasanna is of the view that attacking play by the English batsmen led by Joe root against the spinners was the key for England's batting success. He said " Root has played very attacking cricket shots initially to disrupt the spinners line and length. He is a natural stroke player against spin and earlier too he has performed successfully in the sub-continent. He was sweeping the spinners well. His attacking approach boosted the England team batting and they were able to score huge total on board".
The legendary spinner is not satisfied with the other two spinners. He said, " I saw Jadeja trying to put pressure on the batsmen but was not consistent and Amit Mishra was totally out of sorts. I feel the captain is responsible for the spinners erratic performance as when you have three spinners in your team obviously you will attack more with them. So why Mishra was given less overs than other two spinners? Mishra is an attacking bowler who takes wickets so he needs to bowl more.
Commenting about the future of the series,Prasanna said," If Virat Kohli has to avoid criticism and India needs to win the series then the other Test playing pitches needs to be different than Rajkot pitch. The pitches need to help the spinners as James Anderson will make a come back from the next test match. So spinning friendly wicket is a necessity".
